Washington Warten, affectionately known as “Bro”, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021, in Tampa, Florida.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, October 23,2021 @ 2p.m. at Holly Spring Baptist Church, Warthen , GA .
He was born November 5, 1952, in Sandersville, Georgia. He grew up in Sandersville where he was raised by his grandmother, Mrs. Ella B. Warthen. He attended and graduated from T.J. Elder High School, graduating with the class of 1970. During high school he was a member of the Tiger Marching Band, playing 1st trumpet.
After graduating from high school Bro traveled to San Francisco, California where he attended City College of San Francisco as a music major. He enjoyed music and enjoyed playing the trumpet. Bro loved people and easily made friends. He enjoyed interacting with family and participating in church as a member of the Brownsville House of Prayer Church in Miami where he sang with male chorus. He resided in Miami, Florida for a number of years where he engaged in various employment opportunities until his health failed and he relocated to Tampa, Florida to be near siblings.
His grandmother, Mrs. Ella B. Warthen, and his mother, Elder Glisteen May, preceded him in death.
He is survived by five sisters: Mary May, Glistina Hicks-Moore (Aaron), Beverly Robinson, Cathy Jean Wilson, and Marcia Ann Dean; two brothers, Alvin Caines and Crawford May, Jr. (Terry); one uncle, Julius F. Warthen, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
