Sallie May Obituary

Ms. Sallie W. May returned back to the open arms of her creator on Monday, November 2, 2020 at the Pruitt Health -Old Capital, Louisville, GA. 


Graveside services were held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the Union Hill Church Cemetery in Tennille, GA. Rev. Benjamin Martin officiated.

Sallie Willie was born on November 3,1930 to the parents of the late Mrs. Sallie Irwin Burden and the late Mr. Willie Bill Burden. She spent her younger years growing up in the city of Oconee, GA. At an early age, she joined the Greater New Hope Baptist Church. She met and married her childhood sweetheart, the late Mr. Willie Lee May, at the age of 17 years old.

Sallie Willie later moved to Miami, Florida where she lived for over 60 years before returning back to Georgia. There she was employed as a housekeeper until retiring.

She is preceded in death by her siblings, Mr. Eddie Lee Burden, Mr. Isadore Gennie Burden and Mr. Robert Harden.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories to her devoted nephew Mr. Larry (Sharon) Burden whom she loved as a son; sister, Ms. Geneva Armstrong, Wrightsville,GA; two brothers, Mr. Willie Robinson and Mr. William Reeves, Sandersville,GA; three goddaughters, Ms. Jeanette Cordy, Ms.Tara B. Smith and Ms. Della Fraley; nieces, Ms. Elnora Buden, Ms. Bernestine Burden, Ms. Kimberly Burden, Ms. Mary Daniels and Ms. Arette Barnes; nephews, Mr. Eddie (Mary) Burden, Mr. Leon Evans, Mr. Willie James Fraley and Mr. Ronnie Ebron; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Marie Burden; brother-in-law, Mr. Morris (Magrette) May, Mr. Johnnie Lee (Josephine) May; devoted cousins, Ms. Sharon (Chris) Johnson, Ms. Katrina (Jessie) Sneed, Mrs. Stella (James) Hill, and Mrs. Mamie Poole; devoted great-nephew, Mr. LaBarron (Latoya) Burden and a host of other great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives and friends.

Wheeler’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
