Ms. Mary Wilcher , formerly of Washington County , entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at St. John Episcopal Hospital, in Far Rockaway, NY.
Funeral services were held on Saturday , July 24, 2021 at 12 p.m. at Washington Institute Building, 402 Evans , Sandersville GA with Rev. Tracy Wheeler Sr. , officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church cemetery.
Born on October 27, 1935, in Warthen, Georgia, Mary Wilcher was the last surviving of five children born to the late Annie Miles Price. Mary received her education through the Washington County School System. In search for better opportunities, Mary relocated to New York at an early age. Mary was always known to be very quiet and a woman of few words; although quiet in demeanor, she was strong in stature and quick to demand her respect!
Mary was “Old School”-early to bed and early to rise. She loved cooking and spending time in the kitchen. Almost every occasion, Mary baked a cake. In fact, Mary couldn’t stay out of the kitchen and was still preparing her own meals just before her last days!
She loved her family and was very proud of each of their accomplishments, especially her three sons whom she adored.
In 2019, Mary was preceded in death by her son, Marion Wilcher; in 2020, by her sister, Aggie Ruth Wilcher with whom she shared a special bond. She is also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Sandra DuBois Wilcher.
Then suddenly on July 11, 2021, God in His infinite wisdom saw fit to call the Last Matriarch ch of the Wilcher family from labor to reward and Mary departed this life at age 85.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Milton and Michael (Candice) Wilcher; grandsons, Marion Jr., Jamey and Jermaine Wilcher and Donovan Dubois; granddaughters, Twangna, Tinisha, Krystal, and Joila Wilcher and Jasmine Frazier; great-grandchildren, DeAmani, Jabria, Janeeka, Tenaya, Tamia, Jamey Jr., Jaxen, Baeli, Germani, Cameron, Kyrie and Kacey; great-great-grandchildren, Hassan and Harmony; nephews, Perry Hines, Charles (Ella) Hines, Miles (Cassandra) Hines, Darrell Wilcher, Bobby (Lorraine) Hines; nieces, Elene Hines, Shirley (Larry) Brooks, Annie (Willie) Robinson, Regina Hines, Cynthia Hines, and Brenda (Tyrone) Hodges; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Our hearts ache with loss, but we find peace in knowing that God has a special place for her in Heaven. May her memory live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her most.
Wheeler’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
