Mr. James Hooks, Tennille, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Washington County Regional Medical Center , Sandersville, GA.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 @ 12 PM at Tennille Grove Baptist Church .Rev. Jerry Walden officiated.
Mr. James Hooks, was a lifelong native of Washington County, born December 7, 1935 to the parentage of the late Mr. Elder Simmons and the late Ms. Orian Hooks. He was a graduate from TJ Elder High School. He served in the United States Army, was employed by the Cotton Gin, Tennille GA and Brentwood School of Sandersville GA.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 52 years, Mary Dell Outlaw Hooks. Also preceded him in death were his siblings: William Hooks, Mary Helen Maner, Virginia McQueen, Rudolph Simmons, James Edward Simmons, George Edwards, Charlie Simmons, Marion Smith, and Annie Lou Johnson.
At an early age James Hooks accepted Christ and joined Tennille Grove Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and served faithfully as a Deacon until his health failed him. He was also affiliated with Elijah Lodge #194 since March 23, 1959 (62 years) where he held many positions including Past Master, and was recently presented with his Lifetime Membership Award.
Deacon James Hooks Legacy will be forever remembered and exemplified by his children: Ms. Patricia Rider, Ms Sandra Bryant, Mr. Otis Bryant, Ms. Cheryl Hooks, and Ms. Ramekia Jordan Tennille, GA and Pastor Dwayne (Valerie) Hooks, New Orleans, LA and Edward (Rosalyn) Wilcher, Hesperia CA. Sisters Mrs. Mary Walker, Warthen GA and Mrs. Shirley (Wayne) Prosser-Hodges Sandersville GA. Grandchildren: GregRico Darrisaw, Carlton Scales, Mateen Bryant, Taralynn (Ryan) Watts, Crystal James, LaCrystral Detiege, LaMonica Detiege, Carl Detiege. Seventeen (17) great grandchildren, two (2) great-great grandchildren. Devoted Niece Sharon (Larry) Burden, devoted nephew the late Mr. Kevin Ross, devoted great nephew LaBarron Burden, devoted cousin Mr. Bobby Cannida, Devoted friends Mrs. Dorothy Floyd and Mr. Sammy Knight. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
