My time has come when I must walk through that valley of the shadows of death and I have found comfort in knowing that I am not alone. God Almighty has walked with me from my birth, throughout my life, and now into the passage of death. A loving and understanding God will never leave us or forsake us.
Dea. Freddie Mathis Blocker , affectionately know. As “Bill”, departed this life on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Wellstar MCG Health , Augusta, GA.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 23,2026 at 3 p.m. at Springfield Baptist Church, Sandersville, GA. Rev. Calvin Hatcher officiated. Burial followed in the Sandersville City Cemetery.
Freddie was born on December 28, 1949, to the late Mr. Silver Lee Blocker and Mrs. Corena Mathis Blocker Brooks. He was also lovingly guided by his bonus father, Ralph “Bow Wow” Brooks Sr. Freddie attended the Washington County School System and later became known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He worked with Hodges Pulpwood before beginning a remarkable 52-year career with Howard Sheppard Trucking Company. During his years there, Freddie wore many hats. He drove trucks, repaired tires, trained drivers, and eventually transitioned into a desk position before retiring due to health concerns. No matter the title, he worked diligently and took pride in providing for his family.
Above all, Freddie loved the Lord. He was a faithful born-again Christian and a devoted member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church. He served faithfully on the Deacon Board and wherever God called him to serve. Known affectionately around the church kitchen as “Mr. Bossy,” Deacon Blocker made sure things were done with excellence and love. His church and church family held a special place in his heart.
Freddie was also a dedicated member of the Sandersville-Tennille Optimist Club, joining on March 14, 2002, under the sponsorship of Jeanne K. Carson. Through his years of faithful service, he served as Club President from October 1, 2006, until September 30, 2007. Due to the club’s many achievements during his leadership, he was honored as “Honor Club President” for the year 2007. Throughout his years of service, Optimist Blocker attended several Regional Conferences statewide. He played a vital role in mentoring and supporting members of the Board and club leadership. One of his greatest passions was spearheading the Youth Cancer Drive, where his compassion and commitment helped make a lasting impact on the lives of many young people and families in the community.At the time of his passing, Freddie faithfully held the position of Sergeant-at-Arms, continuing his commitment to service, leadership, and the betterment of his community.
He was preceded in death by his bonus father, Ralph “Bow Wow” Brooks Sr.; his brothers, Ralph Brooks Jr., and Casey Brooks; his bonus sister, Sally “Pat” Johnson; and his beloved mother-in-love, Mrs. Josephine Simmons.
Freddie leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and unforgettable memories. Cherishing his life and carrying on his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Kathy Blocker; his beloved daughter, Terika Blocker (Roderick)Kendrick; and bonus children, Mrs. ReginaWells and Mr. Freddie Lee Blocker, both of Sandersville, GA.
Though not bound by blood, Freddie became a father in every sense of the word. With open arms and a loving heart, he stepped into the role of Dad and never looked back. His quiet strength, guidance, unwavering support, and unconditional love helped shape the lives of Mr. Jia Jermel Johnson of Morrow, GA, and Ms. Tyronsula Johnson of Sandersville, GA.
He also leaves to cherish his memory a loving sister, Ms. Esther Brooks; brother, Mr. Edward Brooks, both of Sandersville, GA; his beloved grandchildren, who brought endless joy to his life: Jamiya Johnson and Jaliscia Blocker, lovingly known as “the two devoted ones he could not get rid of,” both of Sandersville, GA; Ms. Daknequa White of Macon, GA; Mr. Ranquez Johnson, Mr. Justin Johnson, and Mr. R.J. Kendricks, all of Sandersville, GA.
His adored great-grandchildren included Kyndall Johnson, Dion Thomas, Callie Thomas, Kamryn Johnson, and Harmoni Richardson (“his loving aggravator”), Davi Ivey, and Kalis Ivey, all of Sandersville, GA.
He also leaves behind devoted brothers-in-love, Mr. Frank (Sara) Simmons and John Willie (Mae Alice) Jackson, both of Sandersville, GA; wonderful sisters-in-love, Mrs. JoanneHaynes and Mrs. Trina (Eddie) Latimer, both of Sandersville, GA; sister-in-love/family friend, Ms. Louise Jordan; devoted friends who became family, Pastor Bobby Jackson, Mr. Kevin Jacobs, Mr. Alex Sparks, and Mr. Mannie Reaves, all of Sandersville, GA, along with Pastor William and Carolyn Byrd of Metter, GA.
Freddie leaves special love and appreciation to his devoted Pastor and First Lady, Calvin and Gwinnie Hatcher, whose love, prayers, and spiritual guidance meant so much throughout his life.
He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
Although Freddie’s earthly presence will be greatly missed, the love he gave, the wisdom he shared, and the faith he lived by will continue to live on in every heart he touched. His memory will forever remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
