Mrs. . Delia Jean Davis , Sandersville, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at her residence.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. on the lawn of Springfield Baptist Church , Sandersville, GA with Rev. Calvin Hatcher officiating. Burial followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
She was born to the late Mrs. Annie Laura Stephens and Mr. Robert Stephens on November 9, 1936.
Delia Jean attended the public schools of Washington County. Where she graduated from T.J. Elder High School in 1958 and furthered her education by attending Fort Valley State College where she graduated with a B.S. in Business Education in 1963.
She taught school for 31 years; two years in Summerville, GA and twenty-nine years at Washington County High School.
She was the wife of Walter Davis , with whom she shared 26 years of marriage.
She thoroughly enjoyed her evenings out with her family and close friends. It was no doubt that she loved her alma mater , Fort Valley State College.
She also was a active , vibrant and contributing member of the Washington County Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club where she served as assistant recording secretary, corresponding secretary as well as financial secretary where she participated on local, district and national levels.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Mrs. Delia (Frank )Smith of Sandersville, GA; Mr. Alphonso( Carrie) Davis; Mrs. Ann Davis and Mr. George Lane of Wrens, GA; sister, Mrs. Mary Wilcher of Sandersville, GA; eleven grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Wheeler’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
