Marcus Tirrell Hurst

Mr. Marcus Tirrell Hurst, Sr.,age 37 of Augusta, died unexpectedly on Thursday July 18, 2019 at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 27,2019 at the Gardner Grove Baptist Church  ,3511 Wheeler Rd, Augusta,GA with the Rev. Tracy Wheeler, officiating. Burial followed in the My.Olive Cemetery in Augusta GA. 

He was born in Augusta, the son of Lynelle (Jan) Gilbert of Augusta and Robert Earl Hurst of Tennille,GA. 

As a student, Marcus received his elementary education at T.J. Elder Elementary School in Sandersville before moving to Augusta where he continued his education at Levi White Elementary, Tubman Middle School and Lucy Laney High School where he was a graduating member of the class of 2001. After graduating, high school, Marcus continued his quest for knowledge by attending Augusta Technical College. 

“Big Mark”, as he was affectionately known, was a devoted family man who loved being a dad to his two sons, and spending quality time with his three most cherished women, mom Jan, grandmother,Elouise and aunt Mary of whom everyone knew was his pride and joy. Not to forget the unfailing love between him and his brother , Terry. 

He will always be remembered for his intellectual curiosity and passion for fishing and cooking.  He reached so many people with quick wit and steady presence amongst his friends and classmates.  

Marcus’ love and compassion knew no bounds or limits. He is remembered as being humble and exceedingly generous of his talents and time.

He has now joined those loved ones of whom preceded him in death; his grandmother, Mrs. Pearline Haynes Hurst, uncle, Mr. Hershell Hurst, Sr., aunts, Ms. Barbara Ann Hurst and Ms. Tonya R. Hurst. 

Marcus’ love and compassion knew no bounds or limits. He is remembered as being humble and exceedingly generous of his talents and time.

To forever cherish his memories he leaves his his mom Lynelle  Gilbert of Augusta , his father Robert Earl Hurst of Tennille,his sons, Anthony Louis Thompson of  Virginia and Marcus Hurst, Jr. of Augusta ;brothers, Terry Miller and Artreavus D. Harden, both of Augusta; sisters, CreKershia Bell of Tennille, Monica Collins of Riddleville, and Marshelia R. Todd of Irwinton; loving and cherished grandmother, Ms. Eloise Gilbert of Augusta; aunts, Ms. Mary G. Daniels, Ms. Juanita Hurst, Mrs. Delois (Maurice) Walden, Ms. Sylvia Wimbledon, Mrs. Teresa (Cleveland) Johnson, Ms. Brenda G. Hurst, of Tennille, and Ms. Mary Helen Bryant of Columbus, GA; uncles, Thomas (Janice) Gilbert, Alvin (Peggy) Gilbert of Sandersville, GA, and Mr. Tony (Symyra) Gilbert of Augusta. He also leaves several devoted nieces and nephews including Tyler James Miller, devoted cousins Tiffany Brown, Toni Jimperson, and Riley Gilbert; several other relatives and close family members , and countless friends including a special and devoted friend, Ms. Jamekia Reese.
